The reopening of Steam train Maldegem-Eeklo in phases

To make your visit safe, we work with an adjusted timetable, fixed time locks and a limited number of people allowed. Below you will find all the details.

We work with fixed time slots

  • In order to guarantee a safe and comfortable visit, the maximum number of visitors per time slot is 20.
  • You can choose one time slot. During that time slot, you have access to the train and the site. At the end of your time slot, we kindly ask you to leave the site.
  • Please make sure to arrive in time because the train will not wait. If you do arrive late, please contact us via +32 50 71 68 52. If we have any seats available for the next time slot, the operator can give you access.

What do we ask from the visitors?

  • Follow the path as indicated and respect the one-way movement.
  • Wearing a mouth mask is obligatory (if older than 11 years) when the social distance of 1,5m cannot be guaranteed. You can also use a scarf or a buff, as long as you cover mouth and nose.
  • Please follow the instructions given by the volunteers. Wait outside the train until one of our volunteers show you to your seat.
  • We kindly ask you to stay seated during the train ride, since walking around in the train is not allowed at the moment.
  • It is not possible to interrupt the train ride or to get off at Eeklo Oostveld or Balgerhoeke.
  • When the train arrives back in Maldegem, a volunteer will guide you off the train. This way we prevent groups from crossing each other. Please stay seated until the attendant comes to get you.
  • We only accept payments by card. This is valid for purchases at the register, in the train and in the shop.
  • We kindly ask you to keep a safe distance from our volunteers and other visitors.
  • Please do not walk on the tracks and stay onto the platforms.
  • Disinfect your hands regularly.

What we do for your safety

  • All trains for visitors and toilets are cleaned and disinfected thoroughly and frequently during the day.
  • Our cash desks are protected by glass screens.
  • All the glasses used for drinks on the train are being washed immediately after usage.
  • All volunteers are wearing protective equipment.
  • We limit the number of visitors per time slot so that we can keep an overview on the number of people.
  • Payments are only possible by card. Cash is temporarily not accepted.
  • There are disinfecting hand gels at the register. You can also ask our train attendants at any time. They all carry disinfecting hand gels with them.
  • Our volunteers are trained to get you on and off the train safely.
